Instructions for Ordnance Officers from the War Department, Washington, May
23, 1864; Special Order No. 114 from Headquarters Department of Washington,
22d Army Corps., Washington, D.C., May 13, 1865 by command of Maj. Gen.
Augur to E.W. Plaiston; Payment receipt for flour purchased by Mr. D. R.
Spaulding from the Cheshire County Store, Keene, N.H., June 11th, 1864;
Muster-Out Roll of 1st Lieutenant Patrick H. White in the 1st Regiment of
Illinois Light Artillery…called into the Service of the United States by The
President…on the 16th of June, 1861; Handwritten letter from the Treasury
Department dated November 12th, 1844 in reply to a letter from Abe Knowlton
about whether his son Samuel Knowlton (enlisted in the 6th Infantry of the
Peace Establishment) is yet living. Letter was referred to the Adjutant
Generals Office; Handwritten letter from the Adjutant General's Office,
Washington, Nov. 12, 1844, in reply to the letter regarding Samuel Knowlton
and whether he was living. Samuel was shot by the Indians on the 29th of
July, 1841, while riding express between Fort Pleasant and R. Gamble, in
Florida; Special Order No. 157 from Head Quarters, Army of the Potomac,
Washington, Nov 26th, 1861 by command of Maj. Gen. McClellan to Capt. John
F. Glenn, includes small carte-de-visite of Geo. B. McClellan; Handwritten
letter from G.W. Hough to General M.D. Hardin at the Ordnance Office in
Washington, dated June 24, 1865, asking if Lieutenant Barstow could come to
his office to assist him on that day; Two handwritten letters: one is
Special Order No. 326 from the War Department, Adjutant Generals Office,
Washington, June 23, 1865, ordering Sergeant John Rapell, U.S. Army, to duty
at Fort Washington, Maryland, as an Adjutant to Ordnance Sergeant Joseph
Cameron, U.S. Army; the other is from the Ordnance Office, Washington, June
28th, 1865, to Maj. J.G. Benton, Comdg Washington Arsenal, from C.W.
Barstow, 1st Lieut. & Act. Ord. Off., in regards to repairing a mortar
wagon; Seven handwritten letters with dates of March 20, 1862, September 5,
1864, June 8, 1864 (mentions the capture of the Rebels), one dated December
12th referring to the speech by Henry Clay, another dated November 24th from
Fairhaven, Massachusetts, and two dated April 22nd and September 15th from
Burlington, Vermont.

condition; Three Confederate Bank Notes, "Twenty Dollars", Richmond, Va,
July 25 1861, (split repaired with tape); "One Dollar", Bank of the State of

background); "Ten Dollars", Richmond, February 17th 1864; Printed song
sheet, "The Song of the Thirty Third!", for the thirty-third Regiment Mass.
Vol., composed in June 1965 by George G.B. DeWolfe, fold lines, stained and
a tear at the center fold; Miscellaneous cartes-de-visites (four) including
Gen. Burnside and Cyrus E. Baker; and a photo of Hollis Civil War Veterans
decorating soldiers graves for Memorial Day in the South Cemetery, Hollis,
