REVOLUTIONARY DOCUMENT/BROADSIDE

Rare 18th c. Revolutionary document/broadside (General Joseph Palmer's copy and signed by him in red ink), with a call to arms at the start of the American Revolution a few days after the Battle of Lexington, April 19, 1775, "In Provincial Congress, at Watertown, April 23, 1775, Resolved that the following Establishment of Forces now immediately be raised for the Recovery and Preservation of our undoubted Rights and Liberties, be as fellows, viz.", a listing of payment per month for soldiers in each Regiment from Colonel to Private Centinel and that coats and blankets be furnished the soldiers, from each Town and Districts, framed in a 19th c. frame, on the reverse a typed and written history of General Palmer (1716-1788), "...This broadside was part of the papers of Solomon Lincoln, Hingham, Mass." JOURNAL OF JOSEPH W. CLIFT

An important manuscript diary/journal of Joseph W. Clift "while acting Asst. Surgeon USA in the field from Aug 30th 1862 to July 30th 1863 inclusive.", some pages are missing, very legible writing, (Clift was assigned to Capt. Andrew Cowans Battery of the 1st N.Y. Volunteers and described many of the battles of that year. His descriptions were also sent to Newspapers in NY and set in print with the byline "J.W.C."); (from the collection of the late Frederick Hagar).

On fly leaf: "Signed for Joseph LaCroix Esq. by his old friend the author Henry Beston". Ex Libris: stamped "The Fo'castle H Beston" on the front of the dust jacket as well as on the fly leaf. Also includes a tipped in poem in blue ink, "Original Verse 1928", "To a Dartymoor Cow", "A Devon Cow will climb a tor, She can do all but fly, But where she climbs, we climb no more, Pray do not ask us why.". Photographs by William A. Bradford. Very rare volume originally from Beston's own collection. Also includes a contemporary news clipping from a Boston newspaper with a very favorable review of Outermost House, (JPR collection).
