Collection of assorted small boxes and a sander: two hand-hammered brass boxes, highly decorated, one with interior sections, "Mrs. Wilmon Brewer...asked me if there was anything I could use..." (JPR); snuff boxes including round orange lacquerware dated 1760, "owned by Mrs. Emery" (JPR); hinged horn rectangular snuff (with snuff), "given to me by Olive Loring" (JPR); an early 18th/possibly 17th c. black lacquerware round snuff, with painted scene of men playing cards and smoking pipes, "from the Allan Gay House South St Hingham, Ma. I found it on a beam in the barn. The owner Hannaford let me take what I could find in 1958." (JPR), some wear at top, 3 1/2" dia; hinged clam shell change purse with red paper interior, (very finely executed), 3 3/4" l; treenware tobacco jar in the shape of a barrel, turned knob on fitted lid, 4" h, "ex. Lane estate" (JPR); an early fine coin silver snuff or pill box, hallmarked "TG" with crowns, scene of a nude woman painting on an easel and holding a palette with brushes, with a seated putti writing on a tablet, signed on top "F" with a rampant lion, "ex. Gov. J.D. Long's house" (JPR); and a turned wood sander, used to seal wax on letter envelopes.
